Introduction - '85 Carrera

Hello fellow Pelicans!

My father and I recently purchased a gorgeous '85 Carrera from a fellow Pelican. It is in Iris Blue Metallic, with about 122k on the odometer. It was ordered as a CA car, but was delivered in Stuttgart, and subsequently shipped over to the US. It lived in CA for 23 years until it found it's second owner and moved to CO for 2 years. She's returned to her home and is absolutely lovely. The engine doesn't puff or drip any oil; the 915 is like butter. She sounds mean, looks glamorous, and spins heads like a top. I have the previous owner to thank for taking such good care of her, and it is now my responsibility to continue to treat her with the respect she deserves. (I'll let the previous owner identify himself if he wishes).

She was delivered on the 4th of July (Indepelican Day?) via Intercity Lines auto transport. I wasn't present for pickup; my father was, however. The gentleman in the hat is my father. The other people in the pictures are my mother, my brother's fiance, and the driver who brought such a wonderful present to us.

This past weekend, I took her up to the Skywood Trading Post in Woodside, CA. The following pictures are from my iPhone, so they aren't the greatest.

Now for a couple glamor shots courtesy of the previous owner:

With that out of the way, I have a question. The paint on one of the wheels is peeling (knew this before purchase); From what I've heard Harvey Weidman and Al Reed are the two places to send it for refinishing. The other option is to attempt it myself. I am looking for advice from seasoned experts - what is the best course of action? If I do attempt it, do I need to strip the whole wheel, or can I get by with just painting the area around the petal that is peeling?

Cheers to all! Couldn't be more excited to have Iris! :D

Andrew
