You know, by now I have read my November 2001 issue of Excellence like 5 times over, -cover to cover.
Every single time, I have been captivated, absolutely glued to the pages of the article on page 82. "What a georgous car, - how interesting....why does it look so familiar..." Even the owners name.. ."Randy Wells...hmmm... where have I heard that before...seemed to familiar...but from where...?" I am a class "A", super delux, non-decaf M O R O N! Du'H! Maybe I have been sniffing too much PETN! Hell, I must be waaaaay past PETN,... I'm on 70/30 Octol, with a bit of TNT/RDX thrown in the mix! How stupid of me! Randy! Your my hero! WoW! What else can I say? Hey, I just wanted to take the time to say how humbled I feel to actually seudo-know some of you guys who own/built/drive some of these true "class-act" cars. That makes two of the early 911 owners I know who have been in Excellence -Randy and Paul Donkin. Now that I am done flattering these early car pukes, I want to know why we have not had anymore SC coverage in National magazines. This is not good news for the domination plot. "We need total coverage!" In all seriousness, I just wanted to say that my hat is off to you, and that I hope to one day meet you and that beaut-iful car of yours in person.

Leland, wait a minute....didn't you take on the assignment at the super secret meeting to turn the staff of Excellence into mindless zombies who will do nothing other than write about the limitless virtues of SC ownership?

Leland
Let's be patient ... Sept issue of Excellence featured two SCs and 911 and Porsche World has featured an SC project car for several months this year. I know more is better, but we need to rememeber that the very people we are looking to "save " have a limited capacity. They are not yet at the level of an SC owner. To bring them written proof of SC dominanace at a greater pace than current could actually cause both physical and mental harm. Jeff C 81 SC ![]() |

If I remember correctly those SC's in the September issue each had $80k+ into them. If that's what it takes to get an SC into Excellence then I don't think we'll see many more anytime soon!
Now if virtual mods count then it would be another story. I can dream with the best of them.

Lee,
i seem to recall that you MIGHT have been otherwise occupied when the discussion of Randy's car in that Excellence issue was going on on this board ... well, you weren't in Idaho ... might have had to catch a plane or two, anyway ...

Warren, I did assume that such an event could not have gone unnoticed by everyone. And that i must have been...um...detained from reading the board.
I was so taken-back by the beautiful photography. Then I discover that "you know who", also did the shoots! Wow!

Leland, better late than never to come across this article! Isn't Randy's car something else? What impresses me the most is the planning done...the tremendous amount of brain power needed... detailing out a plan to create such a special car. More than deserving of all the compliments. Heck, all I did to get my car in EXCELLENCE was keep it nice for a couple of decades. But Randy's car? Sure makes me think about selling a boring stocker so I can build a hot rod early 911. But after decades with the same car, you get kind of attached...
![]() Really though...all this early 911 publicity? It's part of a subversive plot. A plot to sway the mind of the leader of the SCWDP. And, by golly...it may be working. (sound of evil laughter) Last edited by pwd72s; 12-30-2001 at 09:32 AM.. |

Warren, I like that! Would you consider designing the decals? Don't forget to save your used SWEPCO.

As we probably mentioned in the earlier thread about Randy's car, Randy is usually at our AX events here. He also has a very nice blue early 911. Everyone enjoys watching Randy and his car. I particularly enjoy listening to it. It so happens that Randy is a very pleasant fellow as well, so y'all out to come up here this summer for some fun, Leland. A visit from our leader would really mean a lot to the members of our local SCWDP chapter.
At AX you're likely to see Leeds Gulick's frankenstein 914 too. It's not nearly pretty enough to be in a magazine, but you'll never forget watching it dodge cones.
