What will this cost to replace?
Hi
I was at home yesterday and went out and walked past the car only to see that some ******* had put a hammer through the front windshield at 2pm in broad daylight!!! Does anyone know if someone has screens in stock ,preferably in florida, and can ship to the caribbean I have pics but its too saddening to post Cheers Dean |
Dean,
That's rough! Sorry about that - I had the same thing with another non p-car, it was parked safely in a parking lot nailed with a brick. That said, that is the limit to my first hand experience since I haven't replaced my Targa window yet, but from what I recall reading here, the windows can be had for less than $500, but more if has an antenna. Don't know about shipping to St. Maarten. The trick then is the labor (get someone with p-car experience), which you could save if you did it yourself - Hate to tell you to search, but there is more info here than I could impart. I recall too t hat there was some pros and cons regarding going the insurance route. Best of luck. PS can you post the car year? |
It would cost me a ton of money because I would get my butt out of that neighborhood!

There are two of these threads started by Dean. Perhaps they should be merged.
Dean, Bummer about the windshield. I have been to your beautiful island about a dozen times for the Heineken Regatta the first week of March. Always stayed 50 yards from the water at Little Bay. Anyway, it just so happens I saw this post a few minutes before I was going to make some calls pricing a windshield for my wife's car. I spoke to Safelite Auto Glass about my needs and then they called their store located in Miami at 2757 S.W. 8TH STREET MIAMI, FL 33135 PHONE:877-742-4577 Safelite AutoGlass - Service Locator The Miami location DOES have a front windshield in stock right now for a 1984 911 Carrera for $203.41. I also asked about shipping and Safelite will not ship it to Sint Maarten but they said you would have to hire a shipping company and the shipping company would ship it to you. Good luck. |

Thanks targa guy
I'll give them a call, shipping should be no big problem as there are a few companies that do regular trips to the island Would you recomend a new seal aswell? My insurance will cover it but I have a $360 excess so i'll have to see how the total works out |
Unless it has been replaced recently, absolutely put a new front windshield gasket on the '84. The hot sun down there is tough on 26 year old rubber seals.
This advice will cost you a couple ice cold Caribs at Mr. Busby's next time I'm visiting! |
Do safelite sell the seal?
I think Mr busby's has gone but we can have a few caribs at my local Lady C by the bridge;) |
Make 100% sure they replace & use the OEM seal !!!!!! These high volume glass installers will likely use an aftermarket... I just replaced my windshield a few months ago with the factory seal and it is the ONLY way to go!

Just checked with our host and the seals are temp unavailable
Any where else to get them from and any idea of the price? |

The Pelican filter won't let my recommendation appear. I'll have to PM you on that. |
Thats the one... great fun bar , closed for 2 months for summer holidays re opens october
I think my seal may only be a year old it looks ok I'll check with the PO |
After market seals don't fit. Even the OEM ones are hard to get to work right.
Best regards, Michael |
Hi all
I just called safelite and they said they don't ship windscreens Anyone have any more ideas? |
