Clutch pedal doesnt work after rebuild
Hello,
Just got my 80sc 3.0 engine in the car after rebuilding it. Now I have no clutch??? I replace the clutch with a kit....the pedal just goes to the floor....nothing? I've read some threads but....is it an adjustment issue? Thank you! Alan |
Take a picture of the clutch connection under the engine, post it.

Clutch adjustment........

Alan, Did you remember to activate the Omega helper spring? As someone previously mentioned, a picture of the clutch cable area under the transmission will help readers see what you did. Tony |
Hello,
I just preloaded the spring but it is hitting the heat exchanger....I'm going to beat the exchanger and dent it in enough so the spring can load...I back dated my exhaust. If all this doesn't work ill post some pics :) I hope it works! Cant wait to get the engine started! Thanks guys!! Alan |
If the omega spring is not mounted correctly, you will get this problem.

Dr J is correct. Don't dent the pipe. I thought the same thing last year when re-installing my engine. Walk away for a while. Look at internet pics of the spring and how it is set up. Here is a thread in PP that shows a good pic:

Hello, thanks for the replys!!! I got the car started yea! First time after rebuild :) I am now going to focus on the omega spring setup. Also the shift coupler. Seems I cant get it into all gears. I did however get the clutch pedal to come up half way or so....still not as high as the break pedal... with the wood cover removed the clutch works so I know its not the fork. Ill try to take a pic after the car cools and post.
thanks again! Alan |
Hello,
Here is a pic of the omega spring set up....the adj screw is stuck. I may have to drill it out and put another one in.....http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1279918469.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1279918497.jpg |
It's hard to tell from your photo, But I wonder if you might need to move your arm back a little on the shaft splines. It seems to be a little far forward. This would put too much slack in the cable. Below is a picture of mine, it is an '86 transmission I put in my 73.5. I had to lightly tap the edge of the ssi's to clear the omega spring with the backdated exhaust on my 3.2.
Another possibility is a bad clutch release fork, they are known to crack. Get some PB blaster and soak the adjusting screw before you drill it out. They can get stubborn, but usually come loose. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1279923895.jpg |
Hello,
I'm getting closer! I have the clutch pedal adjusted to where it stays at the top. I still cannot put the wood floor cover back on and have the clutch engage enough....but getting closer. Thanks for all the info! Alan |
