You can use these very gently.

Thanks for the advice Milt. nesslar beat me to posting about the grill I just got from him. My good friends in the postal service did a number on the grill while bringing it to me.

What is that tool called? Would the average Home Depot have it?

Would applying some heat from a small propane torch help or just make the metal brittle?

Sheet metal pliers or something like that. Yes, your home improvement stores should have this. Look in the tool or roofing section.

No heat. The metal is malleable as it is.

Fixing a bent Engine Grill

Thanks for the advice guys. Here's what I did.

First: Wrapped the bent tip in a generous amount of painters tape. It's low tack so it'll leave the paint intact and it is fairly tough when wrapped 6-7 layers thick.

Second: Using the long nose vice-grips I got in my cheapy set from Canadian Tire slowly, very slowly, bent the grill tip until it was as close to straight as possible.

Third: Repeated the process on the other damaged tip and removed the tape leaving a grill that's looking pretty nice again.

Hey,
Did you notice the tips of the bar (second one from the top) are slightly bent?

Nice repair. You're lucky the USPS damaged the ends. A bend between the ends would be more challenging to completely straighten (or at least appear straight), especially with the more common vertical bends which result in a wavy appearance.

Pretty nice?? PRETTY nice!?!
I was hoping you'd be unhappy enough with the USOOPS that I could get it back and keep it, lol! It was pretty darn nice before it became just "pretty nice"....
Very, very nice work IMO...so enjoy the so-so, kinda average, sorta OK grill... Lar
Just noticed: fourth up on the left is tilted up just a tad.....easy fix for you, of course! These folks are all gonna think I did all that....

LOL. I'm guessing that "picky, picky" was meant for the reply from Sherwood....I still can't see what he's referring to..... But again, nice work, "maniac".
