What is the extra connector for on my 964 main loom

I did ask this over on the 964 forum, but got no answer - and as all the brains are over here, I thought I would post the question here as well :)

am slowly working threw my 964 3.6 engine transplant into my 911SC and currently working on some electrical details.

I have the kit from Instant-G, so the basics are no problems. The question I have is what the extra connector on the main factory DME to engine loom is for.

In the following picture I have the Instant-G loom coming in from the left side and the factory loom on the right.

The main connector between the two looms are connected, but the factory loom has the second large (12 pin female) connector which is in the top right corner in the picture - what is this one for and does anyone have a list/diagram on what each pin goes to???

Paul

I am in the US. I have two spare 964 harnesses and neither have this extra 12 pin connector. What color wires are in it? I'll look on the wiring diagram after I get the colors.

That is interesting Jerry. This is the harness that was supplied with the engine when I got it, and had everything that I expected attached to it as you can see in the picture - the two coils are there etc. The connector also looks to be factory and part of the harness.

Obviously I have no guarantee that this harness came from the same car as the engine, but I have to trust it did until I find evidence to prove otherwise!

Not sure if it has any impact, but the engine I have is from a ROW Tiptronic car (M64/02).

Here are the connector details (looking at pins with cover off):

Pin 1: Not in Use-------Pin 2: Red
Pin 3: Red/Yellow------Pin 4: Not in Use
Pin 5: White/Blue------Pin 6: Black/White
Pin 7: White/Green----Pin 8: Orange/Yellow
Pin 9: Brown------------Pin 10: Orange/Blue
Pin 11: Brown/White--Pin 12: Brown

Hope you can help SmileWavy

OK - solved it :)

I just spent the last hour looking threw bad PDF copies of the electrical diagrams and found my mysterious connector.

In the diagram it is named T41 on the diagrams for the Carrera 2/4 Model 90 and connects to the Transmission Control Box for Automatic Transmission cars, which would make perfect sense as the engine I have came from a Tiptronic car :)

Mystery solved! I've done 4 or 5 3.6 conversions so let me know if you have more questions.

Thank you Jerry. My main conversion thread is located here, and this is where I will post most of my questions as I move forward.
