VIN will start with 91143XXXX
Engine shroud will be green. Motor is 911/93 Should have alloy front calipers. Diameter of sway bars should be 20mm front and 18mm rear, IIRC.

A VIN of 91141XXXX is a standard 911. For sure 91143 is the S. 91144 is US Carrera and 91146 is a Euro Carrera.
The standard 911 has a different motor (150hp), and a few other things. Same torque curve though. Doesn't mean it's not a good car just because it's not an S....condition means a lot.

I have some bad news. Technically, it is not, and will never be, a real S, in the sense that an "S" is very fast on the top end and is worth a lot of money.
a 2.7L US car that is an 's' will have a green shroud - b/c it is similar to an "E" - a US '74 will have CIS injection, which works, but is not very sporty. an early (aka, longnose) S will have a red shroud & MFI injection which sucks fuel but is very sporty the hot item in a 2.7L car would be what is called a Euro Carrera, which is similar to an RS all of these are terms you can run searches on & then read about them Paul Frere's 911 book is the best thing to read tho Now, that said, any 1974 is a very nice sleeper 911. They did not have the motor-killing early smog equipment on them (thermal reactors), have a number of upgrades, and often sell for a a very low price. If you hate the bumpers you can convert to a the early car look. or you can save some wt. by eliminating the shocks int he US bumpers and using Euro crush tubes. depends on what you mean by "carrera"
it used to mean something special as far back as the 356; in 1984 P AG used it to just mean a regular 911 |

Starting with '75 (and on), US cars (only) had much larger rear bumperettes with less space between them. |
