3.0 & 3.2 Mufflers ........Interchangeable?

I was wondering if these two engines could accept the same mufflers?

Are the Exhaust manifolds interchangeable?

Thanks

The muffler from a Carrera will fit an SC(as long as both are 1in/1 out).

The factory muffler for the Carrera has an indent where it attaches to the engine bracket to allow room for the heat exchanger crossover pipe.

The factory SC mufflers do not have this indent so they tend to need some massaging to make them fit correctly.

Aftermarket mufflers such as M+K, Dansk, etc should fit without issue given you order the correct unit for your year 911.

Hope this helps. A search about mufflers will yield more information.

I have a couple of Mille Miglia mufflers.

One is single outlet, the other dual outlet.

The mounting flange angle is a little different on both.

Can't remember if they were on the 3.0 or 3.2

What are your plans? Do you have an SC or a Carrera?

Pics could help with the ID of the mufflers.

The flange SHOULD be the same for both regardless of the outlet configuration.

Flanges are identical.

Read haha's post.

I have a gutted Carrera muffler on my SC. Bolted right up.

Can't do an SC on a Carrera, though, without massaging a 'dent' into the top front of the muffler.

The two systems are for sale, but I need to know what they will bolt up to before I sell them.

They came off a 78 911SC but it was either a 3.0 or 3.2 engine.

It the engine is factory installed it is/was a 3.0. If not, what kind of fuel injection does it have?

It's not the engine size, it's the fact that the stock Carrera with the 3.2 has a heater crossover pipe in front of the muffler. So there is an indentation in the muffler so the pipe will not interfere with the muffler.

The SC has the crossover on top of the engine; an ugly, unsightly, long hose that curls over the top of the fan from R to L. No muffler interference.

So if it's CIS, (SC), no problem.

I am not 100% sure about this one... I have information from Ben (M&K) that the inlet on his 1in mufflers are not the same length on the SC and the Carrera ones - and as such not interchangeable...

The info I have is that the length of the inlet pipe is 5.8cm for the SC and 7.4cm for the Carrera

But this info is from Jan 2008 so things could have changed on his mufflers...
