Extremely High Engine Idle

1971 911E with Weber Carburetors

Had a problem with the the gas pedal sticking. Used penetrating oil to clean some of the linkage and then used a graphite lubricant. Things seemed to move easier.

Now the problem. When I start the car, it goes to about 3500 rpm and will not kick down. Prior to this problem, it would idle at about 1100 rpm. The throttle linkage indicates that the carbs should be closed. Checked the two easiest carburetors to inspect and the throttle plates seem to be closed. Can not easily see into the other four carburetors.

Would there be anything other than a throttle plate partially open that would cause this problem?

Any suggestions on inspecting the remaining four carbs? Would it be easier to just pull the carbs out and inspect them?

Thanks

One of the throttle plates is not closing. We have had some problems with backfiring that may have caused this problem Is there something I can do to fix/adjsust the trhottle plate without pulling the carberator out?

Thanks
