car search program

Guys,

I read a post a few months ago about someone on this board (either here or rennlist) who was searching to buy a pcar. This particular individual had some computer skills and developed a program that would somehow go out and search many of the usual places (craigslist, ebay, autotrader, etc...) that cars get listed on. So, everyday he only had to look at one spot to see all the new listings.

Does anyone remember this? I'm currently searching for a new P-Car (993 C4S) and would love to use this type of program to help.

I did a search with no luck...

thanks,

Mark

I remember that post too.....at the time I had saved the website in my 'Favorites' but it got erased.

What I do remember is that is used a Mash search so just I typed in 'mash' into Pelican's search function and found several posts containing the Mash search link.

Here's one:

Used 911 search bot/website link?

I snagged the Mash Link from it and posted below:

site mash : porsche 911 : combined classified and auction listings

Is this what you were wanting?

This one works well. Once you have set your search parameters you can then view them in an RSS feed reader like Google Reader and it will update as the ads are posted. I keep and eye out for 911s under 5k and 930 engines.

You need to select an RSS feed reader first. I use Google Reader (http://www.google.com/reader) but you can use others like www.bloglines.com or the Microsoft email programs like Outlook support RSS feeds. Once you select a reader you just go the the mashup site (site mash : : combined classified and auction listings) and select your search options and then perform a search. Once you have searched you will see an RSS link at the top of the search results with the RSS icon like this, . That is the link to the RSS feed which has all the search options you selected. You then take that link and subscribe to it with the reader of your choice. Once you have added the subscription you will see the new ads pop into your reader when you view it.

I hope that makes sense, if you have trouble just do a search on the web for subscribing to RSS feeds and you should find several tutorials.
