Mud flaps for front fender

Hello everyone,

In order to minimize rock chips on my doors, I'm thinking of making mud flaps for the front fenders.

Have any of you attempted this? If so, do you have any pointers?

I'm thinking of making them out of 1/4" rubber. The difficult part will be to figure out how to secure them.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks

Porsche made them at one time, F and R both. FYI, Vic Elford's personal 911 had them.

They were pretty small and descrete and did NOT have YOSEMITE SAM on them.

I've been told they had clips on them and did not require drilling holes.

Maybe you can find some literature on them.

I've only seen this as an issue on C4 cars (AWD).

In ten years of driving and more than fifty track events I've never had a rock chip from my own tires. Do the wider SC and later wheels/tires cause this problem?

I guess those Whitney curb feelers are next. . . Seriously, you "really" don't need them. If you stock or +1 wheels, you're not going to mar your paint. Although, curb feelers, mud flaps and spinners would make an interesting. . . .

jhtaylor, my tires tend to stick on a tad in the front. enough to cause rock chips on my doors. Especially if i drive through gravel.

tcar, i know pelican carries splash guards for the rear. Maybe the rear can be modified to fit the front.

I've seen mud flaps in the front fenders on 911's but i dont think they're off the shelf.

Surely someone has made some in the past that can pass on some tips.

Mudflaps on a 911 are ok as long as you have the chrome naked ladies on them
