Hey...I saw in one of my old posts that you said your tranny whistled around 2000 rpmand lower...well mine does that in 5th and 3rd...I thought it was low tranny oil, and i filleed her up with swepco but it is still there...do you know what it is??
you said you just avoid that RPM, si this bad for your car or maybe it is a shifter coupler adjustment prob???? thanks MJ |

That's normal. Sleep easy tonight. If you put in the weltmeister shift coupler bushings or other aftermarket ones without the oblong hole, they will make more noise. The aftermarket ones fit tight and transfer more sound into the cabin throught the shifter. They all make that sound, just to a lesser extent with the factory bushings. You shouldn't be running it that low in those gears anyway. Use it as a "lugging the engine" detector.

Brainaic hit the nail on the head!
![]() Sorry did'nt get back sooner but have been at sea!. I agree that around 2000 rpm in 4th an definately 5th is a bit low for these engines. For cruising around town and up to 25 mph I stay in 2nd, soon after change up to 3rd till about 40mph then to 4th up to about 50mph then 5th!. These mph's should from memory be well above the 2000 mark. Too lower revs in 4th or 5th will put unneccessary strain on the engine. Will probabley not damage anything short term -but not really good long term. I just changed my couplings and bushings so maybe thats why mine is a little louder than normal but still a faint whinnig. The quieter your engine gets- them more you hear- or think you hear!!!!. hope this helps and you have no major probs. rgds Ben |
