1988 targa newbe
 

I just bought my dream car ,the very first day left me in the midle of nowhere as i was coming from the dealer ..thanks GOD it was only the batterie 155 dollars in autozone...i have been riding the car afterwards with no problems for 2 months and now is started stalling to the point it dies in the midle of highway .i park on the side and it turns rigth back up .it feels like gas problems ....i chage fuel filter
no luck...fuse box all good ..dme relay looks good on the inside no broken parts ,im not sure if is good .i took it off and the car wont start ,put it back turns on ok...i use fuel injector cleaners no luck..
I have been looking in the forum similar problems and that has help some
I heard my car has 2 fuel pump ,one behind the steering wheel but i canot find it i need help...please...the second is under the car next to the fuel tank i think.
i wana check for fuel pressure any ideas how to start ???

The 88 Carrera has a fuel pump in the front under the steering cover under the car.
The turbo is the vehicle with 2 fuel pumps not the Carrera.
The fuel pressure check is on the left rear corner of the injection rail, 19mm nut comes off and there is a ball bearing under the nut to seal the system.

You need to purchase the Bentley Manual for the '84-'89 Carrera. Will be helpful in answering these questions.

call Mark at specialty cars , off lehigh st. or John's out on 222 and have it diagnosed and set up professionally. Then get the books and maintain it as needed.John may let you sit in as he works on your car.

I would think most car dealers would at least guarantee the car to run until you got it home!! I doubt all these problems just materialized, just who was this fabulous dealer you bought the car from?

I have the same EXACT symptoms with my new-to-me '83 911 SC. I haven't really had time to search for the culprit though. It occurs at all phases of driving, but more often during de-acceleration and low speed acceleration. :confused:

Your best bet would be to try a new DME relay. When they are old they can fail when they heat up. Try a new one. It never hurts to have a spare even if it's not the problem. It controls the fuel pump. Pump won't run unless the engine is rotating, so you will have to jump it out to check it. There are also a few solder connections in the DME that can fail from poor solder connections. 911Chips.com - DME Relay
