Becker CDR-220 hook-up

Hi all,

Just received my Becker CDR-220 for my 78 911SC, and am trying to power it up on the test bench. The manual shows for connecting power:

Socket A
Pin 4 - permanent positive
Pin 7 - switched positive
Pin 8 - earth

Does this mean connecting 12VDC to both pin 4 and 7? Pin 4 for always-on things like memory and security LED, and Pin 7 to turn on the radio functions with the ignition switch?

Any idea what current this radio draws when turned on at low output volume? More than 3A (the limit of my power supply)?

Thanks!
Phil

You've got it.

Also, I believe that Crutchfield has the block connectors for those.

dunno about the current draw.

Becker will sell you a harness for that radio, IIRC. They can probably also send you a wiring diagram, or answer your questions over the phone. They were very helpful when I got my radio. www. beckerautosound.com.

Good luck!

Hey, thanks for this information. It is very helpful. I have ordered the power and speaker harness from Becker USA - they were very easy to work with, and cost was only $18 bucks! Amazing support for this 8-year old German radio.

phiba, you're aware of the faceplate issue, right? Just did this installation in my '88 last winter, and am very happy with it. Mine ended up needing a new CD drive and Becker was great to work with. Got the harnesses, new knobs and the faceplate from them too.
