Tire Dilema

My front tires are shot and need to be replaced. My rears are still good. My ultimate goal is to upgrade to 17" fuchs, but I do not have the cash for that right now. I didn't really want to get a new set of 16" tires because I feel like it's a waste since I don't want to keep the 16" wheels (even though I'm not sure of my time line for that.)

I was hoping to just replace the fronts (Hankook RS-2 205/55/16), however they don't make them anymore, and I can't find any left overs.

Any advice on what I could do?

Hi Matt,

I am new to this chat but have a lot of time fooling with cars. Try the Tire Rack, select the appropriate catagory of tire from the survey for your use, then peruse the choices from top down, looking for the characteristics that matter to you - wet grip braking, mileage, low noise... ect.

Tire Research : Tire Survey Results

I have found this to be of great help selecting tires. I bought Dunlop Direzionalles for the old 308 and am now contemplating the choices for my recently handed down 74 911.

I think one of the major benefits of the tire racks survey is that it lets you choose the tire use catagory, then pick the tire within that catagory that has the characteristics you are looking for in a tire, be it max cornering or low noise.

Give it a shot,
chris

That's the other half of the problem. My rears are 245/45/16. Tire rack has one option for me...Fuzions. So if I want to spend $ 450 (w/ shipping) for a set then I'm good. But I was really hoping to only replace the fronts.

At $105 per tire, that looks fairly reasonable. Are you looking for more performance or ??? With a tread wear rating of 320, it ought to get you down the road for a while???

regards,
chris

I have (2) Hankook RS2's, 225/50-16, probably 1/2-1/3rd worn.

I run these with 245/45-16 rears on the track.

If you are interested, PM me, I can send you pictures, etc.
