Post 915 CV shaft flange bolts question

Doing the left rear wheel bearing per Mr Bentley's no-trailing arm-removal procedure, and can't crack the driveshaft bolts (tranny side). The shaft turns with the wrench torque, even with the trans in reverse. Did I miss something? Or How can I brake the shaft with both rear wheels off the ground?
thanks
pendleton

Well, if your emergency brakes are adjusted properly ... they will hold the axle in excess of any torque you can apply with a 3/4" drive tool! Some times in the past, I have used a five-foot pipe and put all of my 165 lbs on the end to break the axle nut loose ... and the e-brake did not give at all!

Should be able to remove them with the emergency brake on. If it does not hold, this would be a good time to adjust the e-brake mechanism. It's a simple procedure and you're already in the vicinity.
As has been stated here many times, be sure to clean out the heads of the cv joint bolts, they get really full of dirt and will not allow the allen head to fully engage the bolt, then then tendancy to strip out the inside of the bolt becomes a likelyhood.
Not fun.
