Question 1977 Knee pads, keep original or go with one piece?

OK I have my knee pads out of my 77, mine has the 3 pieces, with the center being the ashtray. I also have one here from a 70. I either have to paint(dye) the 3 pieces, or recover the solid one.

What is eveyone opinion? 3 piece or solid?

Shawn

I would say keep the original, although it sounds as if your changing the colour of the interior. If you do decide to go with the one piece version and the others are Black, I would be interested in having them!!!

Simon, Yes I am changing the whole interior colour, it is now tan-going to black. I am pretty sure I am going to go with the older style one piece. Little nicer lines, straight across. Plus the left side piece of the three piece has a small crease in it so I would want to recover instead of dye or paint. =More work.

I believe the 1-piece knee pads were used through '68, with the 3-piece starting in '69.

Howard I have this one piece from a 70S that I parted out (rusted out) but the PO may have switched it.

Hey Shawn, you know I've toyed with the idea of making a set of knee pads that resemble those off of a C2.
The only complication is those damn diagonial heater vents... sure wish my car had square vents..

The C2 knee pads jut out just a bit and drop lower towards the footwell.

I'll keep kicking it around in my head...

Hey Shawn...what looks best to YOU. I liked the early one piece knee pads and also the early piece that fits the top inside of the door. The piece that the door lock button goes up thru. The early ones are much thinner and smaller that the later years.

Build the thing the way you want, your the one writin' the checks.
