Hood repaint

I need to repaint the hood on my 1980 Targa. It's all black now and the rest of the paint is fine except for the hood. I'm thinking of painting the hood flat black. Has anyone seen or done that?

Just the hood? No, haven't seen that. I thought of a matte black stripe as wide as the vent, but a big wedge of flat black would not look good, IMHO.

Of course there's always Rolly Resos' car:

I've been contemplating the same idea. I was thinking it may replicate an airplane where the nose at the bottom of the windshield is pained flat black to reduce glare.

What's the worst that can happen? If you don't like it, just paint it the original color.

If you decide to do it, please post a picture.

order a big sticker .......

or if you can paint it the flat black just order the correct paint from one of the vendors, if you don't have a spray gun you can order it in pre loaded spray cans

United Sales in Akron has 22 line Glasurit if you want a proper re-spray. I use them all the time. Could also help you with the painting in exchange for beer.

My good friend and body shop owner mentions that Porsche black is one of the easier paint matches to do....always comes out perfect for him without resorting to blending. You might want to talk to a good body shop man in your area...might be surprised that it might be an easy respray.
