Looks water damaged, so you are right, can't be a Porsche engine. ;)

JP911 08-04-2010 03:12 PM

Looks like a 996 or 997 motor in a 964 chassis.

mikehinton 08-04-2010 03:13 PM

Looks like a 3.4 (or 3.6) out of a 996. Definitely ain't no oil cooled Porsche motor!

pcar9119 08-04-2010 03:18 PM

Very possibly be the 3.3 out of a Subaru SVX in there. That has been done several times.

JMatta 08-04-2010 03:58 PM

M96 in a 964, likely.

Flieger 08-04-2010 04:38 PM

GT3 engine in a 1973 or earlier chassis.

rluciano 08-04-2010 04:45 PM

Judging by the color, I'd say the chassis is the 1972 911T you sold me in Maritime Blue. I'll guess that the engine is a 3.6 996 w/X51.

Bingo!

Hi Richard.....Hope all is well. You sent me a message a short while ago, but I had a crash (literally) w my laptop and lost all my files.

Perhaps you could re send it?

Cheers everyone, rluciano is the knowledgeable one.

Underside of a GT3 engine looks more like the one in your car (or my car...or any other aircooled 911).

Wayne 962 08-05-2010 08:25 AM

996 engine there.

Packy 08-05-2010 09:42 AM

Are those headers tuned? They look equal length but do they have to go into the collector at the same time to properly scavenge? Seems odd to me.

jpnovak 08-05-2010 09:43 AM

Richard,

Does this mean this wonderful project is headed to Austin?

FYI I think this is the rest of the build.

In all honesty who cares ;) as that car must be a hoot to drive.

The photo above is the 72 Maritime Blue coupe that we mounted a new X51 motor in as a test fitment.

:o I hope I didn't mislead anyone re: the EZ 300hp thread. The 1st photo in that is also the Blue 72 coupe w the X51. It was meant as an example of what could be done. The actual Porsche used in the project is an 82 911SC Targa.

I will post new photos of that project very soon, as it is almost ready to run.

Its taken much longer than expected, and has NOT been easy to do.

Very ignorant of newer Porsche engines. There are very few (I found a single poor one) pics of the 996 engine bottom on Google which I am posting.

The 996 non turbo and Gt3 engine has the square-ish shape to the bottom of it with the removable cover and the 996 Turbo/GT2 has the more traditional looking 911 case?

Also the X51 is an engine upgrade you can get for the 996 and Cayman?http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1281030890.jpg
