part no. 911 618 231 00

Can someone please identify this part for me that's on my 1987 Carrera Cab.?

Aditional numbers are SDF 005 445-04.
Its a silver module with electrical wires plugged into it and its hanging freely under my dash but has screw holes for locating somewhere!

Thanks for your help
Mark

The first thing that comes to mind to me when you say "silver module under the dash" is cruise control module. It's a silver module under the dash that usually bolts flat under the stereo. That's all I can visualize on my '88. Can you better describve the module? dimensions?

Porsche Crest Mysterious silver box

The only "silver module" under the dash I can think of is the cruise control control module.

Eric,

I know it's out of place here, but I'll bet that 748 will give you the ride of your life. Weeeeeeee.

Thankyou for your replies.

I haven't got the car with me at the moment so I'll come back with the dimensions later. I'd say its maybe 8cmx12cmx2cm.

Thing about it being the cruise control module is that I don't have cruise control and it appears there never was.

I've looked briefly at the wiring but it disappears in a loom so I've not spent enough time trying to ascertain where the wiring ends up.

Could the factory have 'standard issued' the module but was an option for all the ancillaries to be installed and connected too?

The same thing applies to the alarm system. Was this an option or a standard fitment? Again my car has no alarm except for a very poor aftermarket job that didn't work so I ripped it out.

If this makes any difference the car is a UK model.

Thanks again guys.

Mark

I'm a new owner and had the same question. From the pictures in the Bentley manual is the cruise control unit. The manual shows the unit on the luggage compartment side of the firewall. I'm thinking cruise control might have been a dealer installed option and the unit fits easier under the dash. Incidentally, the part number on mine is 928 617 127 00.

Expathk-

That is strange. could the previous owner have taken the CC system out, but forgot the control unit? Does your steering column cover have a hole in it behind the wiper arm, where the CC stalk would be? Let us know what you find out. Oh, and on the factory alarms I am pretty sure that they were installed only as an added option. You can easily tell if your car has the factory alarm by looking at the rear (middle section) of the driver's door (in the vicinity of the latch). If your car has the alarm, there will be a key hole in the door (for arming/disarming). if not, there will be a plastic/rubber plug (if I remember correctly).

Klax-

Definitely sounds like a post-factory installation on your cruise control. I think the only factory module on the luggage side of the firewall is the alarm control unit (if equipped). The CC unit should be under the dash as described earlier.

Bhaubold-

Yeah, the 748 is pretty scary, especially since I installed the 853cc big bore kit! The power is amazing. The next step will be to put the bike on a diet, and hopefully shed around 30-40 pounds!

There is definitely no provision on my steering column for the shifter, and there appears to be mounting hardware or anything else in the engine compartment that indicated the cruise control was every fitted.
The actual dimensions are 6.5x7x3cm.
In the morning I'm gonna trace the wiring if it means pulling looms apart to find out

Thanks for the imput guys.

Does anyone else have a late 80's Carrera with the same module? Surely others have it!

Cheers
Mark

PS the plug is there in the door for the alarm switch but what I was wondering is if anyone (especially UK residents know if it was a standard or option to have the alarm?

Thanks for your time all.
