New Porsche guy not 18 like the lucky young man below

I am 52 yr old first time 911 owner.

I need to thank you guys for all the help reading your advice and to other posters. I have been reading your forum for more than a year to educate myself on what to buy and what to expect in maintenance etc.

You guys did not warn me about the addiction.

As a 16 year old country boy in Tenn dreamed of a Corvette. Graduated university and moved to Orlando and upgraded from a Toyota corolla to a old BMW 535i auto.

After years of 27 yrs of buying 10 year old 5 and 7 series BMWs. I am a proud 911 owner.

My wife is going to flip. I WILL HAVE TO HIRE A HOOKER TO GET LAID...who needs sex I finally have a 911.......

1983 SC cabriolet 143k Yellow/ black --- 2 Owner (new rebuilt engine) $11k
1986 coupe 112k Grey / Burgundy --- 2 Owner (New rebuilt, interior and $2,000 just for A/C system) 12 yrs paperwork $8k
1983 928 owned 15 yrs by 2 engineers (New tranny, rack/pinion, interior, wheels/tires, suspension, rotors, calipers, receipts for 15 years. $5k

Oh my new friends the story gets better for all you married guys

The wife is visiting her family and knows nothing of what you guys made me do .... you are like the guys who get the groom so drunk he misses the wedding.

When she left in May we owned the following cars:

2000 BMW wagon (wife) with kids the interior was showing its age and wife had 2 parking lot dents not her fault so I put insurance checks in bank with promise to her a new car soon. She wants a Infinity SUV.

2000 740i sports package (my car for clients and trips)
1991 535i manual (daily driver)
1993 4runner (son in college) who finally graduated after 6 years (party monster)

1st wife leaves in May.... I was not at all interested in a 928. had not even read about a 928 but the engineer down the street lost his job and put a low price on his 928... bought it.

2nd in June Without Wife knowledge I sold her BMW wagon to buy her a Infinity SUV as a surprise.

Then the next week I saw the first day it was on autotrader the yellow 911 Cabrio. I know most do not like yellow but I do. The owner took my low ball offer.... so I pulled the trigger with wife's car cash. (was suppose to buy her a SUV)

You guys go on and on about has nice it is to own a coupe.... your fault again

and yesterday August 5, I found on craiglist the 86 911. I called the guy and he was very nice and said just did not drive it. He just bought new BMW 550 and X5 for the wife and he also still had 08 BMW 330 and a ferrari and 911 in garage. I was thinking this maybe a great deal cause money is not the issue with this guy

Car had paperwork out the yeng yang. Went over with my 24 year old son and it is a nice 911 with 112k miles and paperwork for 12 years. My son is begging me to sell his 4runner which is a beater for $4k and buy this 911 for him. I offered the guy $8k. He said drive it home if your son will promise to keep it for 30 years.

The wife has just lost her BMW wagon and the Infinity SUV. She will be driven my 2000 740 which she hates and I will be watching computer porn when not on Pelican forum.

Thanks alot guys... if I post a sexual thread.... forgive me I am on the wrong website

LOL - great thread. I hope she likes driving a stick. Keep us posted!

My wife always supports my purchases - some more, some less. That said, when I get the cars home she always says": "hand me the keys" and she may be gone for an hour. Of course, she grew up farming, has some gasoline running in her blood and can drive anything ...

Dude........

You'll fit right in here.

BTW-You mentioned that you were a boy in Tenn. but I sense a European dialect in your writing. Did you move to the US?

No, it makes no difference to me. I simply find it cool that I "know" folks from all over the world.

Ohhhhh, man! That's a hell of a story!

Good luck! You'll need some!

Or maybe the wife will drive a 911 and catch the sickness, too?

You better hope so!

Not European by birth but did enjoy 5 years in Paris with EuroDisneyland from 89 to 94 and came home with a German Domantric.

The best thing about France, Germany, Italy that love speed and respect it. If the left blinker is on in Europe never will the left lane be blocked like in the US. If a car is going 120 mph and he see a car coming with left blinker that means I am faster please move over and the driver will clear the left lane.

Motorcycles are allowed to drive the white lane between the left and middle or right lane. Many interstates are more than 2 lanes. So you just stay in left for crotchrockets and they go past at 160mph between cars. This is also very nice in rush hour if traffic is going 20 they can go 40 on the white line. And at Red light in Paris if cars are stacked up 50 deep the bike can go on white lines up to front at Red lights.

For city driving they use the BMW or Honda Enduro cause they handle better weaving between cars in city slow traffic and can jump the curb to park on sidewalk. In Paris the sidewalks are like 20 feet wide and like NY no parking so bike can park on sidewalks.

Also we all here about German autobahn but France does not often ticket for speeding on interstate. I drove 120mph (max speed on my Disney car) every week and never in 5 years got a ticket. Not as many wreck as US on interstates but when they happen blood on the bumpers. I think several reasons. Not many exits almost like a turnpike her in Florida maybe every 10 miles. Can not get a drivers license until 19 yrs and must go to a long drivers class something like 40 classroom hours (Europeans can correct my memory) and no passing on the right but people do not block left passing lane like in US.

My favorite speed story
Since countries are the size of our state and we can drive 120 mph you can go 2 countries over for the weekend. I was coming back from the Netherlands and in Belgium with the younger now wife who was working in Paris as a model at 6 feet and 130 lbs..... Rep Rep..... She thought I was a rich American cause I was on Disney expense account. Back to the important car story. I was on the floor at 120 mph and talking to my hot passenger and not paying attention and I looked back and a car was close on my ass with left blinker and giving me the finger. I pulled over and was ready to give the apology and he pulled up at 120 mph and drove next to me to tell me off. I was like 35 he was like 50 with a hot 30 year old passenger also so when he saw I was preoccupied with a hottie his facial expression went from anger to a big smile and thumbs up while shaking his head up and down like he understood. He then down shifted at 120mph the car appeared to squat and leap and he disappeared in a minute. It was some exotic Lamborghini with Italian plates. He just vanished and I was going 120.

If this guy is from Tennessee, I'm from Mars. My BS-ometer is going off the scale.

"Graduated university", "The wife is visiting her family and knows nothing of what you guys made me do", "If the left blinker is on in Europe never will the left lane be blocked like in the US" - I'm not hearing US-native here...

Also, - "2nd in June Without Wife knowledge I sold her BMW wagon to buy her a Infinity SUV as a surprise."

But on July 30 (last week), he posted, "The wife is getting the 740 and her 540 wagon, 928 and 300zx is for sale so I can add a coupe and money to maintain a 83 vert and coupe". Apparently last week he hadn't sold the wagon in June, but now he has...?

Something is not right here - I'm just saying...

Flame on...

Um, no, in Tennessee (and elsewhere in the USA), the common phrase is that one graduated FROM college, or perhaps FROM A university. "Graduated from university" is like the British phrase "he's in hospital", whereas we in the US typically say "He's in THE hospital"... Not sure what you're up too, but I stand by my statement - you most likely aren't from Tennessee, or in fact the USA for that matter. Not that it matters, but the fact that you are clearly not being truthful makes me wonder what your motivation is.

One thing that rocks about riding a motorcycle in California is that we can legally split lanes just like was described above in Paris and on the highways.

It takes some real courage, though. I got hit by a guy who wasn't paying attention in stop and go traffic and he decided to change lanes right in front of me. He turned hard right in to me. I was going, probably, 25 mph or so and was launched off my bike in a perfectly perpendicular direction to my former direction of travel. Unfortunately this meant that I was imitating superman and flying across a full lane of traffic that had stopped because of this, but when I started to come in for the, uh, landing, I quickly glanced at the traffic in the lane I was now just a couple feet from and still moving toward. It hadn't stopped. So, and I don't know how I did it. It was just reflexes I guess. But I landed on my left hand, but didn't try to stop my movement with it, let my arm roll on to the ground up to my shoulder, at which point my head was about to hit (and I spotted that I was less than a foot away from the white lane divider line), rolled on to my shoulder, my legs were coming up and over me fast, and I remember thinking that I had to stop my movement NOW, otherwise I was about to be run over. As my legs came over, I somehow was able to plant my feet down when they hit and use the momentum from my ejection to come up to a standing position. And suddenly I was already pissed the hell off, ripping off my helmet, and walking quickly back toward the guy who hit me. This all must have taken just a couple seconds to happen because I was at his driver's door before he even realized that my motorcycle was now partially under his car. He was, at that point, SUUUPER pissed that somehow his mirror had been hit by someone and was now dangling by the wiring. Then he looked up and got the fright of his life when he saw me standing at his door in my full riding suit (which saved me all kinds of grief - THANK YOU AEROSTITCH!!).

Anyway, that's my story, sorry for taking over there.

Michael
