Size of flywheel bolts?

Anybody now the exact size socket needed to remove the bolts holding the pressure plate and starter ring on the flywheel. It looks like a twelve point hex socket, I think 6mm. Is this correct? Waynes book describes a twelve point 12mm needed for the flywheel bolts, but I can't find a reference to the size of the starter ring/pressure plate bolts. I found that a standard hex socket won't work.
thanks for the help.
Regards,
John

John,

They are commonly called Polygon drive, and the spec book calls them 'XZN', and Stahlwille marks the bits as M12 and M8, for the crank and ring gear bolts -- sized for the thread size. The M8 size bit is also used for some CV-joint bolts. It does get confusing, because an 8 mm Allen drive bit is used on M10 Allen bolts, and a 6 mm Allen bit is used on 8 mm! Allen bolts

I've also heard them referred to as "triple square".

I bought mine from the local Snap-on truck. It was around $25 but it has lasted much longer than the cheap versions I had before and it is lifetime replacement.

Hello

In german we call them Innenvielzahn

Those tools are also helpfull when you have to loosen normal DIN 912 screws. ( Secound chance before I use vice grips or chissels )

We have them from Snap on ( lifetimewaranty ), Hazet, Stahlwille, Facom, UCLA, and Rahsol. Stahlwille are the best lasting in direct comparsion.

If you bolt down the flywheel make sure you have the correct specs for the actuall used screw.

Grüsse
