stupid 3.6 transplant catch-can installation questions???
 
I know this might be a stupid question, and I did try to search for the answer - but failed to get a clear picture :confused:

I am going to install a catch-can along with my 3.6 transplant into the SC, but getting a bit confused as to which breather line it is supposed to be installed on!

Should it sit in the line between the oil tank and the crankcase breather plate, or the oil tank and the top of the air intake?

Also, I see two versions available - with and without a small air filter on them. What version of catch-can should I be getting, with or without the air filter?

Any picture and details on how the various breather lines are routed on a 3.6 transplant would be very helpful, and special details to the catch-can... Please :rolleyes:

Yo Kroggers.

I dont get the 3.6 catch tank thing.

I have * one hose running from crankcase vent to the oil tank and one running back from the oil tank filler neck to the inlet just in front of the throttle body. The set up replicates the SC system. Unless its different on a 964 motor I dont see the need? My only concern is oil vapour getting onto the MAF.

Hi again Bill, again you come to my education :)

I have been advices that I should install one due to oil getting back into the air intake and gumming things up when driving the car hard (such as on track). I also read here on Pelican that most with a 3.6 transplant have or are considering installing one.

I was told that it is not required for a transplant, but it is advised and cheap insurance - as such I will be installing one.

Based on all I have read and been told, I am assuming it should be installed between the oil tank and the air intake on the 3.6, but after all my searching I am reading that some people have installed it in the line between the oil tank and the crankcase breather - this has confused me a bit!?!

It might not be a "must have", but I have the can now, so might as well install it :)

Hi Ben, this is the reason I have been told and advised that a can is a good idea, and cheap insurance...

But with most things, I am ignorant and just follow the leaders - call me a good sheep :p

ok, there are 4 breather lines on a stock 993
the big one goes from the oil tank to the crankcase breather - do install this one


the other 2 smaller ones go to the intake - put a catch can on these

though the medium size line connects downstream of the MAF and shouldn't cause the issues you wish to avoid

just a note - I track mine extensively and see no reason to use a catch can.

I'm running one right at the oil tank line running to the breather. Works great.

OK, that is cool stuff - again you are my favorite teacher Bill, I will bring you a green apple to our next class ;)

I think on my 964 3.6 there is only three breather lines - one from the crankcase, a large one from the intake and an additional small one from the intake.

Wilywilly - do you have a catch-can with an air filter on it or is it closed?
