964 Taillights on '70 911

Just picked up my new ride, it's a '70 911 with a 964 conversion.

One of the taillight housings is broken (was the '70 housing) and was curious what was needed, or if its possible to actually get the 964 lights into the car.

Pics for reference.

it is indeed possible (heck we even have an excellent condition full set for sale , inc plugs)
it will need some work to get everything to fit right. It takes some fabrication. I can cut out the 964 pieces of a car we are backdating, but those will not be enough as the cross member is shaped differently too

seems like much more work than was anticipated... not quite ready to repaint the car, so cutting/welding parts seems messy.

all the housings from 69-87 should work all the same though?

if you are careful, no repaint is necessary. anything that needs painting would not be seen from outside the car
the housings changed in 1989 , with the introduction of the 964 body

Am I missing something? The tail lights shown in the 1st picture are not 964 tail lights...

the poster was asking about converting his yellow 964 look , that has earlier lamps, to the correct rear lamps and reflector

Does anyone have pictures to show what gets changed behind the center reflector? Is there any modifications required for the turn signals?

Thanks,

Sorry for the hijack, but....are you backdating a 964? If so are there more details on such a car?

No he has a 1970 car that has been updated with the 964 style bumpers and he is asking what is involved to change to the 964 tail lights to finish the late model update.

Do a search Don Ramsey has done several great 964 conversion back to early style 911 and it has been documented here. Jim

Thanks Jim. I was actually asking TRE if they were backdating a 964. I understand what the original poster is doing.

Yeah I've seen Don's work, very nice! The impression I got from Don's C4 RSR is backdating a 964 takes a lot of work. I'm hoping somebody (like TRE?) might have figured out "easier" ways. Regardless, I'm just curious about any backdated 964s. (And yes I've seen Paul Stevens work...also very well done but very pricey!)
