Does your old 911 clock work?
 

Do you have a non working clock sitting around because you cant bring yourself to throw it away? send it to me and ill fix it for next to nothing.

Wish I could have taken advantage of your offer years ago. I fixed my clock by soldering the inside points together and putting a 3 amp fuse inline. You'd probably do a more sophisticated job. Thanks for offering the service by the way.

Clocks are in radios, cell phones and on wrists....I stuffed a volt meter/head temp meter combo.

Many (most) Pelicans start this way – discovering an easy ‘fix’.
Can YOU fix your clock?

I agree, the quartz clocks are very reliable.
I put one in my ’68 when they first came out (’71?).
It still works just fine.

I thought he was talking about the early VDO clock that has an electromagnet that periodically winds the spring.
The points get corroded on that one.

If the quartz clocks fail in old age, most of us post the DIY fix.
If someone develops special tools, that is reasonable grounds to offer a ‘fix’ at some price (relative to the costs involved).

Repairing VDO instruments is generally easy.
Most anywhere you can find someone with the tool that releases the bezel.
The rest is common sense or easy electronics.

That said, I tend to send mine to the pros.
Hollywood has done great work for me.
There are others qualified.

Generally speaking, if a ‘fix’ is easy and doesn’t require an investment in a lot of special (proprietary) tools, we share that info.

Woe be it to one who tries to hide information that we all know or can find.

Yes, it still works. It's the kind Grady was talking about with the electromagnet that rewinds itself. I can't remember exactly what I did at the time, but from what I could figure out the clock took a max of 3 amps. So I figured if I soldered the points together & put an inline 3 amp fuse, it should work out OK. If not I can always replace it with a quartz clock.

If you really can fix any 911's clock, you'll get lot of work. I know there are lot of us who has clock which doesn't work.

Had North Hollywood Speedo just convert my to "quiet mode."

guys you are all correct. and i apollogize if i sounded like i was looking for easy money. i assure you i am not. most clocks are an easy fix. like resoldering the low temp solder or putting an inline fuse in. If you are somewhat mech. inclined it is worth trying to fix yourself. i enjoy tinkering and working on anything. i just recently fixed an oven that some said it was hopeless so they gave it to me for free. new power plug and it works fine. I plan to use it to start powder coating my porsche parts that will fit in it. As soon as my powder gun comes in and i finish my parts i would also like to start doing some parts for other pelicanites as well. Not trying to start a buisiness but make a couple of bucks to augment my resto. If i am wrong for doing that i am sorry. I am a very honest person and would never try to cheat anyone. Just ask hang loose he can vouch for me.

Right now my clock works. But now I've probably jinxed it!;)
