My brother's car is in the process of being stripped and turned into a track car, which poses a few questions and comments. We finished removing the complete AC system, and I mean everything . It is hard to comprehend all the crap (20ft of hoses, 3 seperate condensors) the AC has and still not produce enough cold air to cool this small car. The weight savings really wasn't that significant, about 50-70 lbs including the condensor. The car is much cleaner now. The entire back seats were removed along with all the padding and insulation. Those weighed about 40-50lbs. The front and rear bumpers are removed, each one weighs about 30-40 lbs. These are being replace with fiberglass. One question is, does anyone know of anything to remove the glue left over from attaching the padding to the sheet metal? The seat are going also. Those weigh about 40lbs a piece. Since my brother is 6.2", we are contemplating removing the entire sunroof for further clearance and some minimal weight savings. I suppose they could weld and feather a metal one in, or possible just use the sunroof itself if thick enough? Fiberglass isn't allowed for club racing rules. I'll post some pictures when something exciting happens. Right now it is just a lifeless tub waiting for its parts. The final goal is a track car that is just minimaly street legal.

Hello
OK if fiberglas is baned then use aluminium. Welding the roof opening shut is possible but needs a expert or you will have a wrinklepanel needing bondo. the proffesional way would be to reskin. If the roofskin is gone you can add some reinforcements ( See Ruf CTR ). Removing glue ? Heat and peel/roll of. If not then aceton or paint thinner will work ( with some rubing and soaking ) Grüsse |

A heat gun would help in taking the glue residue off.
