VIN Questions - '76 911S

The VIN tag in the driver's side door reads: 9116201133.

I know this is a 1976 911S Coupe, #1133 built. This is on one of those mettalized tags in the driver's door frame where the numerals are punched out in little holes. The manufacture date is listed 01/76. Two questions really:

#1 - Seems like 1133 is too many cars to produce by the first month of the year.....or were '76 cars produced in late '75 as well, and so mine is not really "early" in that model year?

#2 - Is there anything unique to my (assuming) "very early" 1976 car? I am hoping maybe it didn't come with thermal reactors... or possibly with the 11 blade fan? Far as I know the car has always been in California, but I have not done a Carfax on it. Any advise appreciated.

Oh and also, is there an "Options" numbers tag on it somewhere?

Yes, model year '76 was produced in in 1975 as well as 1976. My Targa is even later than yours. In 1976 only California cars had thermal reactors. In 1977 ALL 911's had them. No 2.7L cars came with 11 blade fans from the factory. To get a full option sheet on your car I think you have to purchase a Certificate of Authenticity from PCNA which has gotten quite expensive, I think. Your car certainly got the full galvanized body.

Thanks Howard. Do you mean your Targa was produced even EARLIER than my Coupe or do you mean it is also from an early month in '76 with a higher serial number than I have?

My rather late '76 Targa S/N is 1606; manufactured in April, 1976. I've only seen one later Targa S/N. How many others out there in Pelican-land are even later?

Production for the next year starts as early as June. The numbers are consecutive, but for each different style of the line. The 1976 first coupe, will be 0001, the first Targa will also be 0001. The difference will show up in the 0 or 1 after the year designation of the VIN.
Later cars even split the VIN to ROW and US.

Interesting as mine is 9116300536 and I thought the build date was 12/75, but it should have been around September or October, huh? I need to check that...

FYI, a model year has to contain only one January.

That means you can start producing your car in February 1975 and continue until December 1976 and call ALL of the cars made a 1976 model year.

My coupe is 9116201519 03/76. Spent the first 20 years of its life in Reno.---No mods except
the fabricated headers that replace the thermal reacters and has an 11 blade fan.
guess these were done sometime in its life. Sugar scoop headlights and one door mirror.
sunroof.&windup windows--fairly original.
