Need some expert advice on new P-car purchase
Gentlemen
I need some advice on a possible porsche purchase. Currently I own a 1990 C4 Cab. I've owned the car for about 1.5 years. I love that car, had a few issues but got them cleared up. I've recently found a local dealer thats selling a 1987 Slantnose Targa. I've only seen pictures of the car so far, it looks sweet. I talked to the dealer and he told me that the car has 50K on the engine, plus it just has a rebuild. I forget the reason why he said it was rebuild. It's not a factory slantnose either, the prior owner made the conversion. The question I have is does anyone here think its worth trading my car for the '87? Any and all insight would be greatly appreciated. Doug |

I started to turn my targa into a slant nose, had the steel fenders and everything ready to go but all i heard was why was i out dating my car, I did a steel turbo conversion instead with c2 bumpers, i love it, I still like the slant, just be cautious of any fiberglass fenders and do a car fax to check to see if its been wrecked, (reason for conversion) and along with the mechanical inspection have the body looked at by a body shop. One reason that helped me change my mine was a friend came over that had one as soon as he seen the fenders he said that when he had his the rain would come through the louvers in the fenders and what a mess, can you post a picture, still love the slant but i really like the c2 bodies, who am i fooling i like em all, Kevin

A targa with a slantnose conversion and a rebuild....I'd say it's three strikes and your out. The slantnose is the kicker. I like the factory one minimally. Aftermarket ones make the cars looks and value plummet. Of course, as always, this is my opinion. You car sounds nice, why switch?

Here's a non-expert opinion. Keep your C4, or find a non-butchered version of the year and model you want.

No way! Keep the car you have- it is better and will ALWAYS be more valuable.

I'm a big fan of the 3.2L cars, but you'd be crazy to trade in your car unless you are unhappy or there's something wrong with it. If there's something about the performance, handling, or character about the car that you would like to change then change it. Besides the other car has too many places for potential problems, engine, conversion...

RUN AWAY !
If you really want a slant nose, find a factory slant. If you want a toy, look into a Beck 550, use it till your tired and turn it around for the same price. Meanwhile you've got a car you love and it's sorted. Mrdi |

I agree with the others - keep your 964 Carrera 4 Cab.

Based on the "revered" advice of Bruce Anderson, you always buy the most recent model that you can afford. SO why trade in a 964 for a 3.2.
Don't get me wrong I will always be partial to Targas and especially the 3.2 G50. But I would be very concerned about:1) non factory modifications, unless you know they were done by a reputable shop with OEM parts. 2) Engine rebuild after 50K - what happened to the car? If you are still set on the idea. PPI is a must. Just my .02.
