I Bought a Used OEM Muffler...
...and it sounds like there is sand in it. Some black soot came out of it. Does that mean it's garbage?

Rust, probably.
Garbage? Depends. It will get louder. I have a totally gutted Carrera muffler on my SC. sounds sweet. |

Not garbage. They do that for awhile after they have been jostled around upside down and such in shipping. A few moments at high speed and things should get blown back into the nooks and crannies that they came out of.

In my experience its always best to use a stiff wire brush to clean off the muffler, clean it off with some simple green, then paint it with some exhaust paint so as to fill in any of minor holes that can lead to further corrosion. What I've heard on the inside usually blew out after a week or two so I've never had to drain sand out of a muffler.

Ok. Cool. I'll put it on and see what happens.

I put it on today. No problems. It seems to work fine. But...I never realized how quiet the stock muffler was!!!
