New to the forum!
Hi all my name is Matt and im looking to buy this Porsche 911 or one like it.
Im currently in a BMW 740 IL and its great! But its big and eats a lot of gas which isn't good for me seeing as I drive into LA everyday for my job. How are these cars in terms of DIY maintenance? are these cars reliable as a daily driver? I have driven my bosses 07 a few times and LOVED it! |

spend some time searching this board on purchasing advice. Tons of valuable info. Finding a good one is not hard but you need to do your homework or you could end up with a money pit that you'll regret forever.
911's are definitely DIYable and can make good daily drivers.

No-one else but me works on my car and I use it as a daily driver, It occasionaly lets me down but it is worth that to drive the car everyday.
If you are going to do that you have to get your head around the fact that doing the maintenance and fixing the car is one of the pleasures of ownership. I love working on mine.

I don't think you're going to be impressed with the gas mileage of a 911. They can get OK mileage, but we don't tend to drive them that way.

I'm with Milt / Zeke on this one. I also have a 740i, and the mileage is similar to my 911.
But the 911 is more fun to drive, and I enjoy working on it (usually). If you're a checkbook mechanic, an older aircooled 911 may not be for you unless you have fairly deep pockets.

There are so many variables here:
1. Do you have DIY skills? 2. Do you have the time to do the maintenance? 3. Do you have a back up car? 4. Will you be sitting on the 405 bumper to bumper in stop and go traffic for your commute? 5. Are you willing to throw money at the car to keep it on the road to maintain it? 6. Do you have secure parking at work? For me I would buy a "beater" for my work car so I could enjoy my 911 on the weekends if money was the issue. It boils down to a personal choice...
