Buying back my '72S Targa, what are they worth now?
HI,
I have a chance to buy back my 1972 911S Targa that I sold about ten years ago : http://www.analogman.com/911/1972911s.htm It has since been totally restored. It was clean, original and solid but a bit rough when I sold it. He wants about four times what I sold it for, which is not really much more than he has in it, as restoration costs and parts are very expensive. ![]() Does anyone have a good idea what these are worth in the current weak market? THANKS!

The current market is a little odd. Sports cars in general are down, but "top shelf" collectibles are actually at all time highs. Things like true collector Ferraris (GTOs, etc.), '73 Carrera RS, Porsche Speedster, etc. are all still very high - many at all time highs.
Early S may not be quite at those levels, but top examples (which your former car looks like) are still getting big dollars - there is a "flight to quality" in the current collector market. A car like that isn't currently being significantly hurt by the weak market. |

thanks.
I found a pair on ebay, seems like under $60K may be closer, one of these has really low miles too. My car has the matching #s engine block separate, it was rebuilt with another block.

California Porsche Restoration has several for sale. Call them and see what the prices are. They have a nice 72S. Also, AutoKennel has a nice "S" targa for sale that might be a good comparable for your car.
