stuck cases

I have a friend who it installing timesert for his head bolts on a 2.7. And can't get the cases split apart. All fasteners are removed, but the cases wont split. Any ideas on how to split them?

Hello

You are sure you have all the bolts and nuts ?

The ones behind the flywheel and the one inside mainbearing 7 ( 15 mm nut ) accesible trough the cainramp opening. And the two hidden by the oilcooler ?

After that you just split the case with a wedge by hammering a slight preload on the casehalves inside the venttower.
Then use a mallet and tap the halves on the bosses overstanding on the lower end and on the alternatorstand. Start with the flywheelside as there at mainbearing 1 are two guiding tubes.

Don´t use muscle, use brains

Also, make sure all the washers are off. They're crush washers and tend to smush around the case studs. It will take a bit of Malletizing since a case sealant is used and if its 25 years old may be quite hard.
