cold control pressure WUR adjustment

I want to lower my cold control pressure since I'm having some lean conditions on cold starts causing low rpms and backfiring for first few seconds of cold starts. I heard you can tap down the pin on top of the warm up regulator. I've tapped on it a few times but I don't think its moving. I don't want to hit it too hard and have it go down too far. My questions are:
1. Is tapping the pin down the right thing to do and how hard do you have to hit it to make it go down?
2. Would lowering the cold control pressure affect the warm control pressure?

jwakil,

Before you attempt to change the settinsg of your WUR, do yourself a favor by checking the control and system fuel pressures. Are you experiencing 'lean condition' because of high cold control fuel pressure or due to unmetered air? This topic is discussed and covered by numerous posts. Search for 'adjustable WUR' and you'll have plenty to read. Good readings you probably should save some of them for future reference.
