Broken 14 pin connector

While working on the rear electrical plate, I broke one of the mail 14 pin connectors. Does anyone know if these are available from the dealer or an aftermarket supplier.

Ron,

Not sure what your connector looks like but Radio Shack carries pin connectors, or try an electronics outlet store. You may have to resolder both male and female wires to the new connector.

Other option would be a junk yard that carries volvo/wv. There are quite a few parts on those old vehicles that are similar to Porsche.

14 pin connector

Ron,

The connector is definitely available from Porsche.
It comes as a kit with a body, pins and a top.
You can get either the male side or the female side
as a kit. I know because I got them to marry my 3.2l
motronic wiring harness to my 914 wiring harness three months
ago.

That said it was very hard to specify the part as the
only dealership in my state gave the helpful response as "DUH".

However I approached an independent Porsche shop and they had the pieces on the shelf. Now why didn't I save that number for you.

When I look in my pet cd part program it looks like the connector
is Porsche #911 612 115 03. This is probably the male connector.
This is from the 85 carrera harnesses section.

You probably can buy the connector body and top and just carefully slide your existing pins in place.
I suggest going to the dealership with this number and talking to the parts guy to be sure he orders the correct kit. I am pretty sure this part is the same for all later 911 where the main engine
harness connects to the body wall. When I asked the independent mechanic he immediately went over to his
SC and pulled it loose and said this right.

Good luck Mark

Ron, If you broke the male (pins sticking out) connector mounted on the electrical chassis (mounted to driver's side of the engine compartment) you want to order kit 911.612.113.05 (Elec. Connector Kit). The kit has both plastic pieces: the outer part which slips into slots in the chassis, and the inner part which actually carries the pins. The retaining tabs (they hold the inner piece) on the outer part are what typically breaks but if the outer part is brittle its worth replacing the inner pin carrying part too. You shouldn't have to change pins (they're soldered to the wires); just make sure you get the pins back into the right holes in the inner piece. If you just want the inner piece it is called a connector cover and has the part number 999.652.430.40 Note the female part of these connectors are part of the engine wiring harness or body wiring harness. Cheers, Jim

Jim,

Thanks for the info. I finally found the part on Pet. I was looking at parts for a 1972. I didn't think about going to later years and doing a search. I learned something today.

Regards,
