Headlight stalk install - turn signal stopped working
Hi all,
Just installed a replacement headlight stalk. Afterwards I tested to make sure everything worked -- it was fine except for the left front turn signal which came on with the parking lights but didn't blink with the signal lights (left rear was fine.) I tightened and reseated the stalk connections, no dice. Then I reseated the bulb and it worked -- and it's been working since. Note that I only tested with the parking lights on. So does this 'fix' make sense? I'd think if it wasn't seated properly it wouldn't come on with the parking lights either... My worry is it'll stop working at some point which'll be hard to tell from inside the car and dangerous. If it makes a difference my car has the euro front with only one amber lens. Also, for anyone doing this job: there are two main wires coming out of the stalk -- one ends in a bunch of individual connections to the headlight switch (left of the hazard button.) I recommend feeding the new wire in before removing the old one. This way you disconnect the old wire, match the color and connect the new one. Nice and easy. EDIT: To remove the headlight switch (at least the SC-style) unscrew the rubber knob to expose a plastic bezel with two small holes. Get the pointy ends of something in those holes and unscrew -- the switch will be free to come out from behind.

Learned how turn signals worked and answered my own question
Looks like my fix is solid. Found out the bulb for the parking/turn signal combination light is a dual filament bulb with two connections on the base. Both were pretty corroded. Cleaned them up, should be all set.
