OBX differential
Well, I am building a performance 915 transmission and decided to try a new TBD made by OBX. They make them for many different cars and I found some reviews on line for other cars that stated that they worked fine and no problems other some minor set up issues. The price was good for $650 with axle stubs and bearings, so I bite and ordered one. It was several months before we were able to start installing it into the transmission. Big problem...the case where the ring gear mounts appeared to be warped and could not be shimmed within spec...I took it to a machine shop to see if it could be resurfaced and when they had taken the unit apart to see about machining it...another big surprise...it appears that the unit was used...inside the gears were worn and there was old cooked grease...machinist said it could not be machined without throwing the internals out of spec. So, I wanted to give you guys a heads up..DON'T buy an OBX unit. It was packaged and sold as new...and they have multiple listings for other identical units on ebay...I will have to find the ebay name and post it later.
The ebay seller I bought it from is not to be found...phone listed just rings and never answers..no voice mail.I am going to try to reach by email, but since it's been over 60 or 90 days, I doubt I will have any recourse through ebay or paypal. BUYER BEWARE!! |
