964 Distibutor part number?

I believe the number is 930-602-015-01 and the Bosch number is 0237503004. Is this correct?

Thanks.

andyjboy 01-07-2002 01:41 AM

Yes, Jack, that's the correct Porsche part no. for the non-Turbo 964 distributor - sorry can't help with the Bosch no.

Thanks! Now to find one. Wayne?

Jack, I assume you've seen the one on ebay starting at $400 ?

Sounds like a lot of money - what would you expect to get one for?

If you don't mind, what happened?

Jack Olsen 01-07-2002 03:08 AM

Nothing's gone wrong, Bill, thankfully. I'm just starting to put together a set of spares for the seven-tracks-in-seven-days Open Track Challenge in May, and I spotted the one on ebay. I previously tried to buy one for $250 from a Rennlist ad, but the guy discovered it was damaged. I figure since my engine didn't have the vent kit when I got it, a spare could come in handy.

The odd thing about the ebay one is that I've seen the part listed elsewhere (rebuilt, with a warranty) for less than $400. We'll see what Pelican charges.

I've also got a spare DME relay and a spare fuel pump ($75, new!). I'm also looking to carry a throttle cable, brake pads, brake fluid with bleed bottle, light bulbs, clutch cable with hardware, sway bar links/hardware (in case of an "off"), and oil.

Any suggestions on what other spares/supplies I should have?

Good thinking!! thats what I am doing in my search for a euro trans.

Tyson Schmidt 01-07-2002 12:03 PM

You know Jack. If you can't find one before May, I can just take the one out of my C2 and put it in my suitcase and bring it with me. I just replaced the belt. It's a piece of cake to swap these things out, so I don't mind doing it.

Jack Olsen 01-07-2002 12:59 PM

Actually, it brings up a simple question. Is any component of the distributor prone to failure other than the belt?

Maybe I should just end the suspense, and send my distributor to Steve Weiner for a once-over, and then not have an extra part bouncing around in the trunk.

After all, two guys in a car the size of a VW Beetle for seven days. The less to pack the better. Got to make room for all of those Air Supply CDs I love to sing along to. ;)

Jack, just my 2 cents worth, but I'f I were you I'd do just that. I had Steve rebiuld my C2 dizzy last summer after the belt self destructed. He does a great job at a very, very resonable $. On mine he had to replace the slave rotor shaft bearing as well. So now I don't worry anymore!

Tyson Schmidt 01-07-2002 07:20 PM

Yeah Jack. That's the only weak point in the distributor. That'd be a good idea to rebuild yours rather than pack extra parts.

As for the Air Supply CD's??? Don't make me have to keep my helmet on the whole trip!

That reminds me of the scene in Tommy Boy where neither one wants to turn the station when the Carpenters come on, singing; "said you'd be coming back this way again baby....." as they both tearfully sing along at the tops of their lungs. Funny stuff. That won't be us. ;)

Hello

Nice polish/ beadblast job but the intake for the venthose is not installed.

Rebuild units from Porsche or Bosch sold to the final costumer come with fingers and caps ( thats just if you want to compare prices )

Grüsse

ThePartsBin.com sells them for $360, but I'm not sure if there's a core charge. Pelican sells them, but doesn't list a price on its site.

I think I'll try to find a week of downtime, and send it to Mr. Weiner.

Jack:

Where did you find a new fuel pump for $75.00? I want in!
