Help Needed With Vacuum Line Problem

<TABLE id=post7846891 class=tborder border=0 cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=4 width="100%" align=center><TBODY><TR vAlign=top><TD style="BORDER-RIGHT: #555576 1px solid" id=td_post_7846891 class=alt1>I am trying to help a friend who owns a 1988 Carrera with fairly high mileage. The car started to lose power over 3500 rpm in most gears... ended up only running at lower rpms. Fuel filter was changed. Problem still exists.

After doing a search on Rennlist, decided to check all vacuum lines first. We found three (3) apparent vacuum line issues: disconnections apparently.

I have attached a few photos of the area where we found the apparent problems. The first one shows a loose (unconnected) line (LINE A) that runs from the left. It also shows an empty port (PORT B) on a "Y" vacuum line connector. The second photo (taken in a mirror) shows the second empty port (PORT C) on the thermo valve.

So... what we need help with is:

1. Where is LINE A supposed to connect? If it is to the empty port on the thermo valve... is there a fitting we are missing to transition LINE A to PORT C?

2. What vacuum line is supposed to be connected in PORT B? Where does that line originate (we have not yet found any othe loose lines).

3. Assuming we can get this straightened out with your help... is this fix likely the cause of the engine problems he was experiencing?

Thanks in advance. Please send feedback as soon as you can.

Take a look at this thread, post #8 has a diagram that should help with the connections. Disregard the "Seafoam connection" note.

What are these hoses? - Rennlist Discussion Forums

Hope that helps.

Andrews info should help. I'm pretty sure A goes to B and there should be a cloth covered hose that goes to the small port on the valve on the throttle body. I have a tiny tie wrap on mine to help hold it on. Ken

Problem solved!

Thanks Andrew and Ken. The diagram at the link you sent was exactly what we needed. Hose A (from fuel regulator) belonged in Port B. There was a cloth covered hose that had worked loose and dropped where it was partially hidden. That hose (from aux air valve) had worked loose from the small port C on the thermo valve. Reconnected both lines and all is 100% again.

Thanks for your help!

Regards,

Bill
