911/01 clutch install questions
I have a few novice questions that are prob simple but many have told me that the 911/01 is different so I wanna make sure Im doing this install right.
The first is about the throw out bearing. On one end of the puck like shape there are two ears directly across from eachother. Are these suppose to be inbetween the clutch fork and trans, or facing out on the clutch fork. As well the trans is currently on a stand, the fork moves freely but should there be any resistance at all or spring loaded to reset itself automatically. I think I am thinking this because of the push action rather then the pull so I am probably just making it up in my head. The last question I had was something someone told me but they could be off the mark. I had been informed that the t/o bearing on this particular transmission was to be connected to the pressure plate. I am using a sachs pressure plate and clutch plate. The pressure plate uses a diaphram so if that information is accurate well then I am not sure how to make this connection. It is my understanding that the diaphram on the pressure plate will create the pressure and no fixxed connection is required. Thank you for your time and any help is greatly appreciated. Zak |

Pelican Technical Article: Replacing and Adjusting the 911 Clutch - Page 1 There are pics of the 915 and 901 clutch / T/O bearing - the 901 does not have the T/O bearing in the spring plate diaphram - see pic 45 & 46 on second page. I have a 915 so just passing this along - but I did used this link for my 915 clutch replacement. |

the 70/71 911 transmission has a pull clutch. the t/o bearing is attached to the pressure plate diaphram with a ring and a snapring clip. when you slide the trans onto the engine, position the t/o bearing ears in line with the fork length, not across the fork. bolt the trans up to the engine. pull the fork toward the pressure plate and use a screwdriver to turn the t/o bearing 90° so the fork tines are under the ears of the t/o bearing. the fork has a tapered washer and a leaf spring under it. they don't do much more than keep the fork from rattling.
