I don't want to organize this...

But we need to have a fall pelican run over Trail Ridge Rd before it closes for the fall. I know that by posting this...several good hearted P-heads will get this thing organized. The last big run we did was Nederland to Estes for b-fast and over Trail Ridge to Winter Park....where there was actually some carnage on the alpine slide...ask me how I know...back to Nederland. Who is up to organize this...?

OK Lars, I'll organize it.

We'll meet at the RTD bus stop in Nederland at 7 am on Saturday, Sep. 5th. We'll head up to Estes and have breakfast at the usual place, then drive over TRR. Those who prefer to turn around and go back over the other direction can go that way, and the rest can continue on to Winter Park and I-70.

In other words, same as last year, except without the alpine slide carnage!

Speedo and I are now signed up...who's next?

Per last year, I'll probably join you guys for part of the drive. At least Nederland to Ward, maybe even going farther, for breakfast.

I'll organize the 6:30 departure from the Boulder Justice Center parking lot (6th and Canyon) to meet up with the crew in Nederland.

So, if you're a Pelican on the Front Range and want to do the drive or part of the drive, plan on a 6:30 am sharp departure from Boulder. If I can get a head count of who will be leaving from the BJC, I'll even have coffee available for those who show up there.

Coffee call will be 6:15am.

Cheers!

I just googled Trail Ridge Rd and that is US 34.

What a route it appears to be!!!

Does anyone have old photos to show us envious Pelicanheads what you will experience?

Len

I'd be interested, but it conflicts with Cars-n-Coffee. Maybe I'll be one of those who goes for the breakfast portion of the run and then head back down to Brewer's Market for C-n-C.

Here's a pic of the road and the "event" from the crew that did it last year (I only drove from Ned to Ward, probably on the same program this year).

Sorry guys, I messed up on the day - I meant to say Sunday, Sep. 5th. I would never want to do a drive on the first college football day of the season

So Matt, you'll have to come up with another excuse.

Plus, the Broncos kickoff is 6 pm so everyone will be home by then.

Tom,

I should be there, at the Justice center.

I am in with my SC. Old blue is still waiting in the garage for me to perform its blown engine autopsy.

Grrr...

I'm starting to hate you people. My brother is in town that weekend, and we have plans for Sunday. We will be at CnC, though. Anyone interested in a pre-coffee drive, maybe Boulder justice center to Ward, then down to Cars and Coffee? If you're doing the Sunday drive, it might be redundant, but if anyone else wants to meet Saturday, let's do it!

I missed last year but will be definitely join you this time ...
Tom, I'll plan on meeting you at the Justice Center ...

A quick question for those that made the run before, I have a less than accurate fuel gauge ... will we have an opportunity to top off our tanks before entering the park?

Willie

... does your Carrera get about .5 miles to a gallon? Gigantic gas leak? Have to buy your gas with Green Stamps (that'll throw the yung 'uns) which means one gas station works for you in Colorado? It's only about 90 miles to RMNP isn't it?

My car won't be ready but I finally got the 915 case repaired and it'll ship back to me from Lake Havasu on Monday. Grady has re-inspected my gearbox innards and all is well. Only need to get a few more readily available parts. So the glacially slow repair of the ol' SC is finally moving again.

Willie, there are gas stations in both Nederland and Estes Park so you'll be fine.

Thanks Dave, I'll be pulling the sending unit and cleaning it this week -but it was only replaced a year ago so I'm not sure it will help.

Roger - it's more for peace of mind - I want to enjoy the ride and not have to be constantly feeling uncertain ...

See you Sunday ...

Willie

I realized I do have another "excuse". I'll be in California that weekend doing super secret testing with a race team. We're supposed to do it Friday and Saturday, with me flying home Sunday. If I can get home early for some reason I'll join up. Most of you haven't seen the new Carrera yet and it would be fun to show her to you all.

This Sunday the 5th of September...

Drive looks good to go...least we don't have a hurricane to contend with
Any show of hands for who is going to continue to Winter Park? If enough folks are up for it, I might suggest getting discount tickets to the Alpine Slide in advance. I will be navigating while my son drives the 74...so I will pick up two for us...let me know. Weather looks good and the high country is just starting to change colors.

Speedo:

I plan to stay in Boulder on Saturday night, so if I can roust myself early enough on Sunday, I'll be there. Look for the white 912. Will probably turn around and do Trail Ridge again on the way back.
