How do I install a power seat in my S/C

Hey all,

so, despite searching for the past few months on her trying to find a manually adjustable tan passenger seat, I have decided to buy a powered one from someone in my area.

From the picture I saw, it looks like it has handles on both sides under the front of the seat, so i'm assuming that the sliding back and forth is a manual adjustment. Oh, this is a sport seat, in case that changes anything as far as installation and such.

What I'd like to know is the best way to find a good power lead to operate the motorized portion of the seat. It isn't going to be used very often, but I would rather have it functional for when it is.

From what I'm told, I just need a single power lead, and I can ground it anywhere. Of course I could rub a line straight from the battery, with an in-line fuse (what amperage?), which would negate the need for any splicing or cutting.

Are there any good wires already present that are good to tap in to?

Thanks in advance, everyone. Replacing the passenger seat will finally get rid of the last MAJOR eyesore in the car.

Though, if anyone needs the top half of a tan leather seat from an SC that is in pretty good shape, lemme know. It's just the actual load bearing surface that tore all the stitching which makes the seat that is coming out unuseable.

Plus, it will be nice to have a sport seat next to my sparco milano. Yes, 2 VERY different seats, but I think that the shade of tan on this other seat is a LITTLE LITTLE bit closer to the beige alcantara of the sparco.

Thanks in advance

Michael

I did the same swap, but never got around to permanently hooking up the power. I installed the seats and connected a battery so I could adjust the seat base to where I wanted it, then disconnected the battery. It's been two years and I've never really needed to adjust them.

Power for seat

The easy way is to locate someone parting out 928's and pull the power cord used in this car. Wires are run to fuse panel and will match up with your seat power plugs and no strange connections.

i just did this and it's a piece of cake. get some 12g power wire and an inline fuse holder, 20a fuse. place the fuse within 12" of the battery and run the line into the cabin. as you are in front of the car looking at it, i ran mine down the right side under the fuse box, across the back of the trunk and into an existing grommet i found almost dead center of the car, maybe slightly to the left. it comes out just about where the floor/firewall and lower dash meet, up and to the left of the passenger side footboard (sitting in the car normally). from there i ran it under the carpet and to the passenger seat, then over to the driver seat.

the seat has a proprietary pin connection on the bottom but the case just snaps apart. there will be 4 wires inside and the two brown wires are the negative, each with a little metal pin on the end. ground them anywhere you like. i went to home depot and got a little package of 12g crimp connectors that are male and female and crimped one male and one female to the seat wires, opposite to the new power/ground wires so that they can never be connected wrong.

that's about it really. it sounds like you have a 4 way power seat which will only have power to the seat bottom, raising and lowering the front and rear. as you are sitting in the seat the lever in front and on the right moves the seat back and forth. the lever on the left is the seatback tilt.

power seat installation

I searched the Forum and this is the closest thread I could find to my newbie question. I just bought a fairly decent condition power seats to install in my project and need help sorting out the connections. There are several wires I am trying to identify and would appreciate some help.

I've numbered them in the pic to make it easy. Please note that there are some cut wires (#1) and I don't know if I am missing a part that plugs in to #2. Nos 3 & 4 are just cut wires that I assume would have something to do with the power leads. Then there's #5 in the foreground with a connector.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Some direction on how I should proceed in testing and setting them up for installation would be great.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1310420722.jpghttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1310421446.jpg
