1969 911 Oil Pressure Sending Unit

Whats up with the needle on my oil pressure guage being pegged to the max!!!???

I replaced the sending unit but no relief!

Pelican sent me a unit with a single post. The old unit has 2 posts.

Any suggestions on wiring/hooking up a single post pressure sending unit?

Thanks.

the two post unit worked the light and the gauge. maybe you attached the light wire instead of the gauge wire. pegging shows an open circuit.

It didn't matter which of the two wires I hooked to the single post on the new unit. The needle still pegged to the max. One wire runs the "idiot light" and the other wire runs the pressure guage. Correct me if I am incorrect.

Maybe my wire has a broken circut...

Do all of the "new" or "replacement" pressure sending units have only one post?

Thank a load. New to the site and need lots of help.

one post is pretty much what you get these days. there are early and late one. they have to relate to the gauge. or you have an interruption in the circuit.

Thanks for your continued replies.

A followup question if I may....

If I have two wires and only one post, does that mean that I have to choose between the idiot light or the pressure guage/needle? Can I hook up the wire for the guage/needle and simply ground the other wire or does this mean the light will not work? Can I connect them to the same single post?

Sorry for the continued replies to your responses. This is the last one. Thanks in advance. This one post 2 wire thing has me perplexed and I am a newbie - first Porsche (It is fun!).

Any other folks with input???

if you have continuity, grounding the light wire will make the light come on, and grounding the gauge wire will make the gauge drop to the bottom. the gauge pegs if there's no continuity. the sender you have is only for the gauge, so if you want the light to work, you need the seperate light sender and a few brass fittings from the local parts store. you need to make a tee under the gauge sender to screw the light sender into.

Hello

Pre 72 cars have no idiotlight. The idiotlight is for the sportomatic overheat lamp.
