Broke my Screw Jack... what to buy?

I broke my screw jack tonight - didn't have the front wheels chucked and the car rolled forward. Fortunately the only damage was to the jack!

What do you all keep in your cars for emergency tire changes?

I can get a replacement jack on Ebay for about $90 bucks - but is it a good jack to keep in the car?

944 aluminum scissors jack. Lightweight and very adequate for emergency tire changes. Beyond that, use something more substantial.

If you use the aluminum 944 jack do you lift using a jack pad?

You don`t need a jacking pad with the 944 jack as it has a guide/pin that fits right in the hole on the four 911 jacking points, which helps to keep everything steady ...

Cheers!

The '86 and earlier 911's don't have the 4 jack points you are referring to.

I did the same thing with my 84 Targa. And I was unlucky enough that the jack and the wheel were trapped when the jack gave out.

You need the original. I paid like $20 at Hershey for mine. Keep looking on eBay or come to Hershey in April. In the meantime, just pick up anything that will work.

Now you know not to use the factory item unless it is a emergency.

Hell We even have them in NC.
Great tip I am putting that on my list, and getting rid of my other sizzor jack, i am not a big fan of the factory jack on the early cars, prefer pifting closer to the target I want to lift.

Regards

Got my 944 aluminum jack today. When the package arrived, it was so light I was convinced the jack was not going to be in the box!

Under 5 lbs and it's all there.

Thanks for the suggestion everyone!

944 Jack and a jack pad is what I used in my car...Original jack was kept for show purposes only. The hockey puck solution is brilliant!

Broken screw jack

My original screw Jack did the same thing, sort of. The only difference was my Jack sunk 2 inches into the pavement of a park and ride in Redmond, Washington. When doing so the car lurched forward and the Jack bent to the point where I couldn't remove it. All the while the car was half up and half down. Scary stuff-from now on I am only carrying a good Jack.

This sounded like a great idea so I went to the Pelican 944 website. Taylor Dodson has a bunch of 944's he's parting out. He sold me the jack for $20+ shipping. His phone is 404.488.1456 and e-mail is TaylorDodson@comcast.net. Takes PayPal.

What did you guys use to cut the hole in the hockey puck?
