Porsche Crest 1984 911 Factory Turbo Look What is it Worth???

I have come across a 1984 911 Turbo Look from the factory with only 18,000 miles on it. What do you think this car is worth?

Michael

Depends on where you live. I think I know what it would be going for in los angeles.
If it's legitimately 18k miles, and is a CA car (so the body isn't rusted as it might be elsewhere), it'll be at least 30k.

Bruce Anderson answered a question about the value of a TL in a recent Excellence. He says that he huge premium (something like $10k or 30%) over the Carrera at the time was due to the pent up demand for the turbo, and although they are undoubtably very special cars, they do not command that much more than a Carrera today.

Like all of the other "what is my/this car worth" posts lately, value is what ever (more than one) person will pay for it. Ultra-low miles cars, unless they are very rare and undisputably collectable are worth only a little more than mint cond. normal milage cars. If you plan on actually driving them much,(the horror!), they will be normal cars pretty soon.

Probably a dumb question but, are turbo look cars identical to turbos (brakes, suspension, etc...) except with an aspirator engine? Thanks.

Factory turbo look option, of course.

Yep, the factory Turbo-look cars are identical to the turbo's, just minus the turbo engine/trans. I think they are one of the best 911s ever produced. You get the look and some of the performance (suspension, brakes, etc.), without the significantly higher maintenance, and insurance costs. Couple that with the reliability of the Motronic 3.2L and you have an almost unbeatable combination!

Agree with Eric- these were great cars. Also sometimes refered to as "turbo chassis" option; everything but the turbo engine is what they had. Highest chassis/motor ratio ever offered by factory, 993"S" was same concept.

They undoubtably pull more $ than regular model from unscientific e-bay observations, they are not everyone's cup of tea aesthetically but I sure like 'em.

I'll chime in on the turbo look. To me, it qualifies in the "All show, no go" catagory. Actually had a slower top speed because of all those flares and the same engine output. People that own them must get tired of repeately answering "NO, it's not a turbo, it just looks like one."

Here is a picture of a beautifull 85 turbo look. Unfortunatly, the owner, a really nice guy, with lots of $$$$$, insist that it is a turbo.

Isn't the single exhaust tip (oh, and a lack of a boost gauge) a dead giveaway?

Well, a lot of 930 owners opt for new (s.s.) exhaust/mufflers, so a single outlet muffler isn't always a direct give-away (unless it is obviously a stock single 3.2L pipe). The absence of the boost gauge is the quickest way to call someone on their BS. Also, it is especially sad when you see a nice Turbo-look that has the "turbo" script on the deck lid, and the stock Carrera 3.2L exhaust! Although, I would personally hesitate to own a real 930 just for maintenance reasons alone. Yet, I've always thought that the ultimate street/track warrior would be based on a 3.2L Turbo-look with a Whipple supercharger. That would give you 100+ more horsepower/torque than a stock Turbo, and no lag!

As I had my heart set on a t-look until I found my 88 comm, I saw the following prices for reference:

84 33k miles with expensive Speedline 18s and fuchs $26
84 60k miles $23
84 (mocha) 95k miles $22

Also, for the mileage comparison I have found 84-86 (narrow bodies) to go for high 20s.....so If the car is mint I would think a sale of $29-32 would be fair? Out of curiousity are you going to be diving the car alot?

I agree with Eric, I was especially amused when guy told me that his turbo look came from the factory with the TURBO emblem as the emblem referred to the body, and not the engine....

I just looked at the ebay post.....correct me if i'm wrong please, but my '85 doen not have the 3 spoke steering wheel. It has the newer 2 spoke look. I thought the only dif. between 84 and 85 was the addition of power driver's seat???? That wheel looks like the one that the SC's have.

You're right, 83 was the last production year that particular steering wheel was used.

If that car is an 84, then the wheel is not original.

The seats dont look original either. The 84 model used power seats with 3 dials on the side.

That is a beautiful car, truly looks like a brand new 1984. FWIW, the steering wheel and seats ARE CORRECT for '84, style change for these items was '85 M.Y. '85 is unique year and easy to spot because of new seats/wheel, but old (small) dash vents and no 3rd brake light.

I know you know the shop selling this car. I dealt with the owner years back and several times since. I don't believe he sells junk. The shop has a good rep and I believe the shop puts its rep behind every sale.

Have you driven the car?

When looking for my 78SC, there was a turbo look in not nearly as good of condition going for 18K. I expect that one to go for at least 28K. it is in a beach community right down the street from Newport.
