For those that removed the bumperettes
I'm just finishing off a much needed rear face lift. Everything has gone pretty smoothly, aside from the hideous gap i have from the rear rubber moldings.
I've seen others examples and was curious how you guys get the rubber molding to sit flush with the inner part of the bumper. Is adding another screw my only option?!?! They are brand new as well. Pic below of the gap! Thanks in advance!! ![]() ![]() |

You can drill through the rub strip and screw into the bumper to pull in the rub strip and use a black plug to hide the screw or take the bumper off and drill through the inside of the bumper and slightly into the rub strip then use a sheet metal screw to pull in the rub strip.

I would first try the 3M double-sided tape stuff that is used to stick badges and stuff to cars these days. If it does not hold, then you have an easy clean up before trying something that involves drilling etc...
I used that to fit my number plate on the front, and had a real hard time getting it off again!

Here are (2) more options:
What I was planning on doing: Drill a small hole in the bumper and put in a short (but coarse-threaded) sheet metal screw into the rubber strip from the inside of the bumper - that way it doesn't show. And what I actually did: With the rubber strip off the car, I bent the rubber strip in a makeshift fixture and applied a little heat for an extended period of time to "shape set" the part to a more bumper-conforming shape. (Luckily, my wife won't see this and find out that I used her oven.) ![]() Last edited by dw1; 10-01-2010 at 08:39 AM.. |
