Porsche Crest Has anyone replaced the pull-cable guide tube?

Has anyone replaced the pull-cable guide tube to the engine lid on their early 911?

Looks like mine is about to rust apart.

What did you use for the replacement? I am thinking of some semi-rigid brake tubing pre coated so it won't rust.

I did mine just like you're thinking... that is, I used brake tubing from Napa. I think it was 3/8" I got a whole coil for about $20 if I remember right.

Interesting!

Why did you replace? Just based on visuals --- rusting? Or did something malfunction?

I ask because, this AM, my engine lid won't open. I pull on the handle --- felt solid tension --- but engine lid latch won't disengage and lid won't pop open.

I don't know if it's the cable or the latch!

I just searched our host site for cable --- could not find it.

I did find the latch mechanisms --- there's a top one and a bottom one. Close to $500 for both from PP --- if I recall correctly.

I hope I won't have to buy these parts.

Well, my first hope is that I can get the lid to open manually somehow.

Thanks!

With regard to the engine lid not opening. Have someone press down on the top of the lid where the latch is and then pull the handle and hold it while the person tries to lift it. This will help take the pressure off the latch and you may be able to get it open. Good Luck

When I got home and tried to pull and open, the lid opened.

I guess the cold morning "froze" the engine lid latch.

Much thanks to all for your suggestions. Very kind!

Sounds like your hood latch needs to be adjusted so that there is less force needed to release the hood when you pull on the latch to open the hood.
