Trunk carpet - 911

Hi, I'm looking for a way to make a cheap carpet for my front trunk.
My question: Any ideas on how to fasten the carpet along the top edge? Glue?

There should be a series of snaps running along the top edge.

Interesting. . .

I've got some carpet for my trunk and have been meaning to ask a question that's relevant here. Is there a template for the carpet? I know that trunk carpet comes in 3 pieces: bottom, right and left. I'd like to cut my carpet as close as factory. . .

Maybe not possible?

Thanks!

Seems to me that the easiest way would be to find another vehicle with the same trunk and use their carpet as a template? I don't know about Norway but I imagine that there is a PCA person in Vail that would be willing to take an afternoon to help out in return for a burger and beverage.

You can get new carpet kits for $80-90. Whats your time worth?

Yes, I can get new carpet kits for $80 or so. BUT, a large piece of very nice black carpet that's ideal for the trunk came with my car. With a template I can make my own in about 10 minutes costing me nothing and giving me the satisfaction of doing it myself with materials I already have on hand that I don't have to buy or source. With the $80 I save, I can buy parts that I need to make my car run better from our host here. . . any other questions?

Thanks, Por-Scha911 for the helpful suggestion. I can easily find a fellow 911 owner with a carpet to template off of. Coffee + Cars this Saturday outside of Boulder. Good idea!

Cheers!

Edit. I guess you didn't like that idea as I was posting.

I'm just a cheap bastard! No offense meant, LOL! I'm doing an experiment in low budget 911 ownership. (trying to make mine a mere $15k car vs. $20k car!)

Don't forget to mark where the snaps go. You can get a bag of snaps at any place that makes leather belts, bags, etc. like Tandy Leather. You can rig a tool to punch the rivet to fasten the snap into the carpet. The Tandy kit looks like this: . The Anvil keeps the snap face from deforming and the punch centers on a hollow rivet to push it down uniformly. Works great and snaps come in handy to fix other projects. Or, find a leatherworker who will do it for you. Not sure of the size.

My car is custom and I have the battery, fuel filler, signal horn, strut brace, and other stuff in unoriginal places, thats way I want to cut my own carpet.

Now I know my car was supposed to have a series of snaps running along the top edge. Anyone can post me a picture on how the snaps and the edge is looking? My car miss those snaps.
