Emissions testing...
I'm resurrecting a 75 911 with the 2.7 engine/K-Jetronic induction. I live in the Portland, OR metro area and have to get the thing through emissions testing for licensing (and having doubts the thing will pass). No thermal reactors or cats, and it looks like the air pump has been removed. My previous experience with older Audi's and K-Jetronic is that I can generally tune things to pass even without additional smog stuff, but not quite so sure about this 911.
A couple of questions for those of you familiar with this situation: - How do you have your 2.7's tuned to pass emissions testing? - Have you found it necessary to have the air pump installed and operational? - If air pump required, does anybody know of an aftermarket electric air pump that's suitable? - Any general advice for getting through this? Thanks for the help. |

I can only offer a little insight as here, in Ca., 75's and earlier are exempt.
I would suspect that you'd need to find an air pump and reattach it as that is a visual element that smog techs could fail you for--if they are aware of it in Oregon. Also, the smog pump has tubes that connect to the exhaust ports in the heads that may have been removed also. Someone may know how thorough the techs are in your area with regard to early 911's, but your 75 does not have a lot of smog equipment--no cat, and if it wasn't a California car, no thermal reactors either. My suggestion would be to be sure all ignition components are in good order (including timing, both advance and retard), have the CIS system working properly, have someone with a gas analyzer set your air/fuel mix (if necessary), and take it in for inspection.

I feel for you. Portland's emission rules are inflexible after reading their website.
You got an uncle outside the Portland area? You can register the car in that location and your car then becomes old enough to bypass the test. Also, I see smog pumps and brackets on Ebaymotors.com. No individual lines running to the cylinders though. |

Without the air pump, they will not pass you. I would be looking for a functional pump and all the plumbing to install so you pass the visual part of the inspection. Electric ones will not pass: everything needs to be OEM. The only other option would be to register it outside the DEQ jurisdiction. Good luck,

Thanks for the advice.
Unfortunately, I'm out of relatives outside the immediate area for registration. Fortunately, only the air pump is missing. All the injection lines are still present. |
