winter beater

I'm sure all Porsche owners have some sort of winter beater, right? Mines an old 325 that I've had for 12 of it's 21 yr existence and it was a disgustingly dirty sight, the engine bay in particular. So with lots of degreaser and lots of soapy cleaners and 3 days work I transfered the dirt from the engine bay to all over me. It turned out pretty good I think. I would have posted on the other site but there never seems to be anyone home over there. Hope no-one minds,

Thanks- There's 225,000 Kms on it but still works great. Tough little cars, winter or summer.

Damn! want to come over and do my 944's "engine room" as Paul Frere would say?
Just kidding!
Did you just use regular auto parts store stuff or anything special?
I'm thinking of getting a so-so 325ix for the winter or just an LSD and blizzacks

Mostly used household cleaners, nothing to strong, like fantastic, or purple power, lots of hot soapy water and a good parts brush. Then a can of black satin finish paint spray. Run the engine to dry things off before paint. Of course mask off everthing, especially windshield, that isn't black.

It's a 5 speed, and I'm in the Northeast (Canadian Maritimes) and yeah we get snow. But I have a pick-up for the nasty days.

Hi- Newfie, Thanks for those kind words, e-30's do rock. Speaking of Rock, how hard were you hit by IGOR? Sad to see such damage. Looks like your 84 911 is Iris Blue,? My '86 is same, I think it's a great color. regards

nice ride. exactly the same combo as mine.
mine is an 89, stick, 4-doors, with occasionally functional a/c...and it's a winter/rain beater. i don't think i'd ever let it go...

i think i keep my e30 engine bay fairly clean but not to the level you did. well, i have some leaks so it would never be clean... fantastic job well done! do you mind telling us what you used and how you did it? i still have cosmoline all over and haven't spent enough time to get rid of them.

Hi- Thanks. Mine is a "is" 2 door., degrease with parts brush and something like varsol. Then hot soapy water, (bag off fuse box and alt) Then more cleaning till everything is shiny. Mask off and spray bomb some black satin on all the black parts. Even the dull plastic parts. My engine bay is mostly black so this was easy, yours maybe white and a little more work but you can get white satin too. I used a couple of different brands of paint to get a little contrast so it's not all one shade of Blk. PS your 911 looks good as your BM also. It looks lowered, right?
