AC aluminum tube recommendatons
My dad had the dealer install ac on his new 74 911. They ran it down the right rocker and i had to remove it to install the factory brass cooler lines for a Carrera cooler.
Now, I need to run new lines to the right front for the ac. I am considering running rigid aluminum through the right inner rocker panel, since there isn't room in the outer rocker for both, Then adapting the dealer rubber hose for the remainder of the runs. I have heard that AC might require a different type of aluminum tubing, that isn't susceptible to corrosion by the refrigerant. Is this true??? if so, what do i call out for the tube. Additionally, i need help calling out the tube inner diameter. Can i just use the same as the dealer , or is there a preferred high and low side inside diameter pipe?? I turbo'ed a 914, but my knowledge of ac is way back of book, (massively ignortant). Any help appreciated, by the way, the new carrera cooler is really working, no temps over 200 F. I am a happy guy :-) chris |

The ac lines i have are under the left rocker. I am using copper. No issues still. Used as replacement over the old flex hoses.

AC line question
There is a web site called nostalgicair.com that sells rigid Aluminum tubing in the sizes and lengths you need. The high pressure line will be #8, and the low pressure line will be #10. Nostalgic air also sells braze on fittings for Aluminum line, but they have a limited selection. Rayeverett air.com (or something like that) has a bigger selection, and they also sell the special aluminum brazing rod you will need; brazing aluminum hose fittings with this rod is super easy and can be done with a propane torch.

Thanks Guys,
I would like to go down the right side, since the car is set up for it. I will try the two sites. Thanks, chris Here is the site, it looks like they have just about anything you might need to do ac work. http://www.nostalgicairparts.com/ Last edited by Chris Morse; 09-05-2010 at 09:23 AM.. |
